Manage Device Enrollments
To expedite the provisioning of Android devices, you can enroll devices in the Android Mobile Device Management (MDM) service by scanning a policy QR code. During enrollment, ViewSpot and other application packages are downloaded and installed, and device settings are automatically configured. The enrollment process involves four steps:
From ViewSpot Studio:
Step 1: Create policies comprised of public and private apps for installing on device models.
Step 2: Generate a PDF document of the policies and their associated QR codes.
Step 3: Send the PDF document to retail stores.
From retail store device:
Step 4: Scan the appropriate QR code for each device you want to enroll/provision.
Note: Refer to the ViewSpot Android MDM Installation Guide for instructions on enrolling devices using a QR code.
Policy management involves these tasks:
Note: Your assigned user role must include the read:device and write:device permissions to perform these policy management tasks.
Create a Policy
A policy contains the public and/or private applications you want to install on a device during the Android MDM enrollment process. From the Policies page, you can view an alphabetical list of all policies and create new ones.
To create a policy, follow these steps:
1. Log in to ViewSpot Studio.
2. Select Content Management > Enrollment from the menu bar. The Policies page displays.
3. Click Create New.
4. Enter a name for the policy in the Policy name field. The name must be unique.
Tip: Use a name that will identify which device model the policy is meant to support (for example, Samsung Galaxy S20).
5. Enter the name of the application package in the Package name field.
6. Select the desired Installation type:
● Required for setup: Device setup cannot complete until this app is installed on the device. The app is automatically installed and cannot be removed by the user.
Note: A maximum of five (5) app packages can be assigned this installation type.
● Force Installed: The app is automatically installed and cannot be removed by the user.
Note: An unlimited number of app packages can be assigned this installation type.
Note: You can select a different Installation type for each package.
7. Click Add. The app package info displays on the page.
Note: Only one application can be added to the policy at a time. To add another app, type a new package name, select the desired Installation type, and click the Add button.
8. When you are done adding applications to the policy, click Save.
The policy is added to Policies list and Android MDM account, and appears with its QR code in the list of Enrollment QR Codes.
9. (Optional) To display the policy's QR code on the Policies page for quick scanning, click Generate Code. The code can be used until you select another policy and click Generate Code for that policy.
Generate Enrollment PDF
When you are done creating the policies to support the devices you want to enroll, follow these steps to generate a PDF document that lists the policies and their associated QR codes:
1. Log in to ViewSpot Studio.
2. Select Content Management > Enrollment from the menu bar. The Policies page displays.
3. Click Enrollment QR Codes at the top of the page. An alphabetical list of policies and their corresponding QR codes displays.
4. Review the policy list for completeness.
Note: To make changes to the list, click the Policies tab and add a new policy, or edit an existing policy.
5. Click Generate PDF.
6. The PDF file is saved to your default Downloads folder. If desired, open the PDF by clicking its link in the download message.
Tip: Rename the file to help identify this list of policies, and store it in a dedicated folder.
7. Deliver the PDF to the appropriate retail stores using the desired method (email, hardcopy, link, etc.)
Note: Devices enrolled using a policy QR code appear under the Enrolled Devices tab.
View Enrolled Devices
When a device scans a policy QR code, the associated application packages are installed on the device and it is enrolled in the Android MDM service. You can view a list of these devices on the Enrolled Devices page.
Note: You can also unenroll devices from the Enrolled Devices page.
To view enrolled devices, follow these steps:
1. Log in to ViewSpot Studio.
2. Select Content Management > Enrollment from the menu bar. The Policies page displays.
3. Click the Enrolled Devices tab at the top of the page.
A list of devices and their enrollment information displays.
Unenroll a Device
When you unenroll a device, the following occurs:
● The policy and its associated app packages are removed from the device.
● The device is unenrolled from the Android MDM service.
● The device is factory reset.
If desired, the device can then be re-enrolled using a different policy.
To unenroll a device, follow these steps:
1. On the Enrolled Devices page, hover the mouse over the desired device and click the icon.
2. Click Delete when a message similar to this one appears:
The device is removed from the list of enrolled devices.
Edit a Policy
In-store reps cannot add or delete application packages that have been installed on a device via a policy. The only way to do so is to edit the policy using ViewSpot Studio. Devices will then get the updated policy the next time they perform a policy sync with the Android MDM service.
Note: If you want to change a package's Installation type, first remove the package and then add it again with the desired Installation type.
Note: The policy name cannot be edited.
To edit a policy, follow these steps:
1. Log in to ViewSpot Studio.
2. Select Content Management > Enrollment from the menu bar. The Policies page displays.
3. Select the desired policy to display its app package information.
4. Edit the policy as desired:
● To add an app package, enter the package name, select an Installation type, and click Add.
● To delete an app package, hover the mouse over the desired package and click the icon.
Click Delete when a message similar to this one appears:
Note: You can also click Clear to remove all app packages from the policy for you to build the policy anew.
5. When you are done editing the policy, click Save.
The policy is updated in the Android MDM account and appears in the Enrollment QR Codes list with an updated QR code.
Delete a Policy
You can delete a policy from the Policies page.
Note: Policies used to enroll devices cannot be deleted unless those devices have been unenrolled.
To delete a policy, follow these steps:
1. Log in to ViewSpot Studio.
2. Select Content Management > Enrollment from the menu bar. The Policies page displays.
3. Hover the mouse over the desired policy in the Policies list and click the icon.
A message appears asking you to confirm the deletion.
4. Click Delete.
The policy is removed from the Policies page and the Enrollment QR Codes list.
